Plans
- There will be some more updates to do as the weather engine for MSFS changes following October 2025. However, Microsoft is grindingly slow due to the massive and expanding size of the sim, so its anybody’s guess when that will be.
- I don’t think the current representation of clouds is as accurate as it could be. In some situations the results are impressive, but there are plenty of times when the cloud rendering fails to look convincing. It is my task to make the clouds look as best as I can, but I’d like more tools of better quality to be able to do that. However, no the Epic Clouds are on sale, I have the incentive to continue to look for improvements where I can.
- The aim is still to get the Epic Clouds into the 2024 Marketplace since that provides access to the XBox, PS5 and Switch devices.
Release 2.2 for MSFS 2024
Reason for release: There is a known Microsoft bug which becomes active when the sim’s Measurement Units are set to ‘Hybrid’. In this situation, the wind values in weather presets will be treated as kilometres/hour by multiplying them by 1.852. The net result is that all wind values are nearly doubled for no reason. This causes a problem in the Epic Clouds because the Winds Aloft values were high already and that has erroneously elevated the wind speed at lower altitudes quite drastically in some cases.
Until this bug has been cleared by Microsoft, all the winds aloft speeds have now been lowered to moderate values so that they no longer adversely affect the lower altitudes.
Selling Via JustFlight
JustFlight have agreed to sell the Epic Clouds on my behalf for a 30% fee after costs. Although they used all my text and screenshots to build their web page, they chose a slightly higher price for the product which I think is a good balance and better reflects the amount of work I have put into the project. I will keep the files on Flightsim.to updated in parallel with JustFlight.com.
Selling Via MSFS Marketplace
The application to the MSFS 2024 Marketplace was started in October of 2024, now more than 12 months ago. In a recent Dev Stream broadcast by Microsoft, they stated that there are about 1800 applications waiting in that queue. A few months ago they said there were 300. I have tried to contact the Marketplace to see what is happening but there is no direct email route and my queries via support have failed to get anywhere. I’m not sure if I should reapply or not. Apparently plenty of others have done just that, as commented on by Jorg Neumann in the latest Dev Stream.
